Highest Waterfall in India

Waterfall is a steep descent of the water of a river. It is formed in the upper course of a river with steep mountains. Because of their landscape position, many waterfalls occur over bedrock fed by little contributing area, so they are ephemeral and only occur during rainstorms.  Here, we are giving ‘Top 10 Highest Waterfalls In India’ for general awareness.

1. Kunchikal Falls

The Kunchikal falls is the highest waterfalls in India and also the second highest in Asia. The height of the waterfall is 1,493 ft is located near Agumbe in Shimoga district of Karnataka. The largest waterfall is formed by the Varahi River. Agumbe valley is among the places in India that receive very heavy rainfall and it has the only permanent rain forest research station in India.

2. Barehipani Falls

The Barehipani Falls is right in the centre of Odisha’s Simlipal National Park in Mayurbhanj and stands at 1309 ft. This waterfall is tucked into an alcove of deep, green forest making it ideal for a visit by trekkers and nature enthusiasts. The waterfall is situated on the Budhabalanga river which flows into the Bay of Bengal. This waterfall is known for its beauty that it adds to Odisha.

3. Nohkalikai Falls

The Nohkalikai falls is the 3rd highest waterfalls in India. It is located near Cherrapunji, one of the wettest places on Earth in East Khasi Hills district Meghalaya. Cherrapunji is very famous for Hills, rainfall, living bridges and oranges. The other highest and popular waterfalls in Meghalaya are Nohsngithiang falls and Kynrem falls.

4. Nohsngithiang Falls

The Nohsngithiang Falls at Meghalaya is 4th largest waterfalls in East Khasi hills district of Meghalaya. The falls formed immediately after the confluence of the diverged streams from a height of 1,033 ft.

5. Dudhsagar Falls

Dudhsagar waterfalls is also known as The Sea of Milk is well renowned for its spectacular trajectory. Dudhsagar is the fifth highest waterfall in India falling from a height of 1020 ft. Dudhsagar falls is obviously one of the most popular falls in the country and a great tourist attraction of Goa apart from its exotic beaches.

6. Kynrem Falls

It is another waterfall from Meghalaya in the list of top 10 highest waterfall in India. It is situated inside a beautiful park known as Thangkharang Park, another popular attraction of Cherrapunjee in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya. It’s height is 1001 ft.

7. Meenmutty Falls

Meenmutty waterfalls is the tallest water falls in Kerala and also one of the most beautiful waterfalls, falling from a height of some 980 ft in Wayanad district of Kerala. It is one of the famous tourist spot in south India. The peak is famous for its wilderness and Meenmutty Falls is the largest and most spectacular waterfall in Wayanad.

8. Thalaiyar Falls

Thalaiyar waterfalls also known as rat tail falls because of its shape, situated in Dindigul district of Tamilnadu. It is one of the biggest water fall form a height 974 ft. 9. Barkana Falls
